DONATE to their care: https://petallianceorlando.org/ways-give/donate/
The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are trickling down into communities in unique and unexpected ways.
Last week, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando jumped into action to rescue 25 puppies from Dothan, Alabama that had nowhere else to turn.
The puppies came from a rural Alabama shelter that temporarily closed its doors due to a staffing shortage. So many employees were out sick or in quarantine due to Covid-19, that there were not enough people to care for the animals. In addition, summer is also the time of year that the number of animals surrendered to shelters peaks. This means more animals to care for, including pregnant and nursing mothers. For the animal shelter in Dothan, this meant they had little choice other than to ask for help. Thankfully, a network of transfer partners was able to come to the rescue. As soon as the call was received, Pet Alliance quickly developed and carried out a plan to travel to Alabama and bring the dogs to Central Florida. By doing so, Pet Alliance helped save the lives of 25 healthy puppies that may otherwise have been euthanized.
Pet Alliance is no stranger to transferring in dogs and cats in need. In the past few years, thousands of animals from local, national and international shelters and rescues have come to Pet Alliance for care and rehoming. There is no shortage of eager adopters in Central Florida looking for their new furry family member. Each year, more than 5,000 dogs and cats find their new homes via Pet Alliance’s shelters.
This work would not be possible without the community’s support. Please consider sharing this story or donating to Pet Alliance to ensure that there will always be a place in Central Florida for animals to find safety, comfort, care and eventually a new forever home.
