A year after a man killed two of his coworkers and wounded two others before killing himself at a Northeast Alabama factory, workers dedicated a memorial to the victims at the scene.
Albertville’s Mueller plant has erected a memorial to the victims of a June 15, 2021 workplace shooting. A hydrant factory, Mueller made a fountain and memorial garden to the memory of the two men slain in the incident.
David Lee Horton, 44, and Michael Lee Dobbins, 27, both of Boaz, were gunned down by Andreas Deon Horton, 34, of DeKalb County, at the plant at around 2:30 that morning. Also wounded were Casey Sampson and Isaac Byrd, both of Albertville. The two are still recovering from their wounds.
Investigators said Andreas Horton shot the men before fleeing the factory. He was later discovered in his SUV on Carlisle Avenue in nearby Guntersville, parked at the edge of Guntersville City Cemetery, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The memorial, designed and built by factory employees, has two Mueller fire hydrants with the men’s names inscribed on the pumper caps. Water flows out onto the caps and into a small pond. There is also a garden area.
Services were held at 1:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. today, according to the company. Plant manager Mike Lang said the memorial brings back “incredibly difficult memories.”
“However, what has really touched my heart this year is the incredible strength and compassion of our plant team, and the extraordinary support from Albertville and the surrounding communities,” he said.
