An Alabama sheriff’s deputy died after the patrol vehicle he was driving while on duty hit a ditch and overturned, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Jmar C. Abel, 24, of Auburn, a deputy with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department. He was driving his assigned vehicle on patrol when the accident happened Monday afternoon. He was taken to a medical center in LaGrange, Georgia, where he died, according to a Tuesday news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The cause of the vehicle leaving the road was not immediately known. Officials said the crash occurred on Chambers County road 278, about five miles south of Roanoke,
State troopers are investigating.
