Johnson spoke on The Today Show about her work producing and acting in Cha Cha Real Smooth—and why it means so much to her. “Yeah, I do feel the most proud [of this film],” she said. “I don’t know, we also screened [it] at South by Southwest, and it was the first time I watched the movie in a movie theater with an audience, and it felt so different than just being an actress in a movie because I made the whole thing from the very beginning to the very end, and my blood, sweat, and tears are all over it. I just felt so proud.”

She also confirmed that she always wanted to go into show business like her actor parents. “I always wanted to be an actress. I was obsessed,” she said. “When they [parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson] were on set, I wanted to be on set. I just loved movies. And I was the kind of kid, I’d watch movies over and over again, like multiple times a day. Mary Poppins for sure [really shaped me as a kid] and then Home Alone was a big staple. The Wizard of Oz, but those I would watch them every day for a couple years and then move onto another one.”
