Edwards receives credit union scholarship
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock High School graduate Luken Edwards was among four students to receive a 2022 scholarship from Eastern Indiana Federal Credit Union.
Edwards, of Markleville, plans to study engineering at Anderson University. The $750 “People Helping People” scholarship was also awarded to Cori Allen of Middletown; Lauren Cummings of New Castle and Gracin Jessup of Spiceland.
EIFCU is a not-for-profit credit union that serves Henry, Delaware, Hancock and Madison counties. The scholarship program is established to help lessen the financial hardship associated with postsecondary education, according to a press release.
Local students named to Cedarville honor list
HANCOCK COUNTY – Several Hancock County students were named to the dean’s list of Cedarville University for the spring 2022 semester.
Hannah Kinion of Greenfield, McKenna Dean of New Palestine, Abigail Himes of McCordsville and Sarah Himes of McCordsville were named to the list. The list honors students that obtain a 3.75 grade point average or higher while earning at least 12 credit hours.
Affiliated with the Baptist church, Cedarville University is located in southwest Ohio.
County students named to UA dean’s list
HANCOCK COUNTY – Students with local ties were named to the dean’s list of the University of Alabama for the spring 2022 semester.
Connor Grim of Fortville, Andrea Hayes of McCordsville and Ashley Prange of New Palestine were named to the list, which honors full-time undergraduate students with a grade point average of at least 3.5.
The University of Alabama, part of The University of Alabama System, is the state’s flagship university.
MV superintendent to share at open house event
FORTVILLE – All 65+ Club cardholders and anyone 65 and older living in the district are encouraged to join an open-house style event 8-10 a.m. July 12 at the Mt. Vernon Administrative Service Center, 1806 W. Ind. 234, Fortville.
Donuts, muffins and coffee are provided; attendees will be able to visit with each other and Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker. Cost is free and reservations are not necessary. Attendees may join the 65+ Club by providing proof of in-district residency and identification; the club provides free admission to most Mt. Vernon middle and high school events.
Summer children’s meal program continues
GREENFIELD – Free meals for children ages 18 and younger are available at several Greenfield sites this summer.
The program, through Greenfield-Central schools, is available weekdays through July 22. Sites include Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St. (door 14), breakfast 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Greenfield-Central Junior High School, 1440 N. Franklin St. (door 11), breakfast 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. to noon; Greenfield Intermediate School 204 W. Park Ave. (door 3), breakfast 8-9 a.m., lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center, 300 Apple St., lunch 11:30 a.m. to noon. Meals are available to all children regardless of school district they attend, even those too young to attend school. Meals must be consumed on-site.
Meals are also being offered to students that are taking part in the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County and Kids Kamp at Greenfield Parks, but those sites are closed to program members only.
