A man was shot to death Sunday night on an Ensley Street.
Birmingham police identified the victim as Horace Berry Jr. He was 50.
West Precinct officers responded just after 10 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 1600 block of 19th Street.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said police arrived to find Berry unresponsive in the roadway from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the victim dead on the scene.
Investigators said Berry and the suspect were involved in an argument that was domestic in nature. The male suspect fired shots at the victim, striking him.
The suspect then left the scene, along with a female who is believed to be related to Berry. Fitzgerald said the shooting wasn’t random and all involved knew each other.
No arrests have been made.
The homicide was Birmingham’s second of the weekend. An 18-year-old was fatally shot Saturday night in Gate City.
Berry is the city’s 66th homicide this year. Of those, five have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 90 homicides, including the 66 in Birmingham.
