Dixie Youth Baseball D-II State Tournament Kicks Off At Bowers Park

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Bowers Park on Thursday saw the Alabama Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) Division II State Tournament kick off with its opening ceremonies for the four-day event, which will feature 40 teams from around the region.

PARA officials also said Bowers Park has been busy this tournament season, with the event this weekend representing the 13th of 14 tournaments scheduled for this summer.

PARA Director of Community Outreach, Athletics and Senior Programming Jay Logan said the tournament speaks to the agency’s emphasis on creating a one-of-a-kind baseball experience.

“This speaks to our skill to create a one-of-a-kind baseball experience for hosting tournaments in our community,” Logan said.

Tournament director Dale Phillips — a program supervisor for PARA who also serves on the National Board of Directors for Dixie Youth Baseball, Inc. — also expressed his excitement as the tournament kicked off Thursday.

“Dixie Youth Baseball is excited to return to Tuscaloosa and Bowers Park,” Phillips said in a press release on Wednesday. “This is an exciting event for families and players. PARA does an outstanding job in hosting this event and helping further the DYB mission.”

PARA says the AA, AAA and Ozone teams will play a double elimination tournament, with winners advancing to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series Tournament in Anderson, South Carolina.

While South Carolina will be the host for this year’s World Series, PARA Executive Director Gary Minor reminded the public that Bowers Park will host its first Dixie Youth Baseball World Series Tournament event in August 2023.
