Literally All Your Walmart Grocery Options Explained

Big-box retailer Walmart has been vastly expanding its grocery options in its quest to compete with Amazon and position itself as the store that sells everything and gets it to you fast. Walmart is even out there bragging that they’re “playing offense” with their aggressive approach to online sales.

Walmart has 4,740 stores and counting in the U.S., and it’s hard to beat the company’s affordability, massive range of products and speed of delivery. But with Walmart Grocery Delivery, Walmart Grocery Pickup, Walmart Express Delivery and Walmart+, it can be confusing for the uninitiated to understand just how great and customizable the Walmart grocery options are. To make sure you’re getting the most out of Walmart, here are literally all your Walmart grocery options explained.

Walmart Grocery Pickup

How Walmart Grocery pickup works: Save time with Walmart Grocery Pickup, the store’s no-fee grocery service. Shop online at Walmart.com or on the Walmart app for groceries and other household items, making sure to choose items that are available for pickup. Then arrange a time to pick up your stuff that works for you for free curbside pickup. When you arrive and park in a designated pickup spot, a Walmart staffer will come out and load your purchases directly into your cart. Pickup isn’t just for food. You can also pick up non-grocery items such as tech buys, gifts and even toys.

Most Walmart stores offer curbside pickup seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

What Walmart Grocery Pickup Costs: Curbside pickup is free so long as you order at least $35 worth of groceries.

Is There a Minimum Purchase With Walmart Grocery Pickup?

You must spend at least $35 on your order. Othwerwise, you will be charged a $5.99 fee.

Walmart Grocery Home Delivery

Prefer not to drive to the store? Walmart will deliver your food, drinks and other items to you during a time slot of your choosing. Just like you’d shop online or via the app for your items to pick up, you do the same here but select “Delivery” instead.

What Walmart Grocery Delivery Costs: Deliveries are $7.95 or $9.95 depending on what time slot you choose. Some slots may only be open to Walmart+ members.

Is There a Minimum Purchase With Walmart Grocery Home Delivery?

Yes, there is a minimum of $35 for grocery delivery.

Walmart Express Delivery

Need your stuff super fast? Walmart Express Delivery is the option you want for same-day delivery in under two hours. First, visit walmart.com/grocery to see if the service is available in your store. Currently, nearly 3,000 stores offer it (which the company says covers 70 percent of the U.S. population). Shop online like you’d typically do at Walmart.com. When you’re done, choose express delivery at checkout and your order will be delivered to you in two hours or less.

What Walmart Express Delivery Costs: Walmart Express Delivery costs $10 on top of the existing delivery charge, which is $7.95 or $9.95. Walmart+ members only pay the $10 express fee, not the delivery charge, as that’s free with your membership.

Is There a Minimum Purchase With Walmart Express Delivery? Nope! Walmart dropped the $35 minimum they’d previously required for Express Delivery, so whether you need a last-minute ingredient for a meal you’re making or are low on diapers, you can get it fast. You are, however, paying for both the regular grocery delivery fee and your express surcharge, so this service can add up.

Walmart+

Walmart+ is Walmart’s membership (much like Amazon Prime) that has all sorts of excellent benefits and perks, starting with free unlimited grocery delivery. Walmart+ members also receive free shipping on all online orders with no $35 minimum required, discounts on select prescriptions, savings on gas at some gas stations across the U.S., and access to exclusive savings and promotional events. We at RetailMeNot are big fans of Walmart+ membership for grocery shopping.

What Walmart+ Membership Costs: Walmart offers a generous 30-day free trial for Walmart+ for new customers interested in checking out the service. After that, you pay either $98 annually or $12.95 a month, plus applicable taxes.

If you’d like to add InHome delivery service (which lets you have your groceries brought inside and placed in your fridge!), you can add an extra $7 a month (or $40 per year) to your Walmart+ membership to get unlimited InHome deliveries for no fee in select markets.

What Walmart Grocery Delivery Costs With a Walmart+ Membership: Delivery of groceries is free with a Walmart+ membership, unless you choose Express Delivery, in which case you’ll pay the $10 express fee but nothing else.
