UPDATE: Man killed after shooting in Covington County | WDHN


COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Police say an Opp man was killed Tuesday morning after being shot.

At around 10:45 a.m. on June 14, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on Jackson Town Road in the Horn Hill Community of Covington County.

Upon arrival, deputies found Brandon Keith Foley, of Opp, with a fatal gunshot wound, according to Covington Couty Sheriff Blake Turman.

The Covington County Sheriff’s Office told WDHN on Wednesday they are not sure whether it will be able to charge Peoples with murder because there is a standing ground issue. According to deputies, peoples is claiming he was trying to defend himself when he shot Brandon Foley.

James Derek Peoples, also of Opp, is the main suspect in the death of Foley, Sheriff Turman says.

He was arrested for drug possession charges, and failure to appear for a separate charge.

Peoples is currently being held with no bond in the Covington County Jail.
