Stroll through history Saturday at Old Alabama Town

Step back in time this weekend into a large community market full of goods, crafts, food, music and a rich history.

Market Day returns to Old Alabama Town on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.

Ella Martin, special events coordinator for Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery, said the event is a community endeavor to get people to see this amazing site in their own downtown backyard . For those who came out recently for a spooky evening at Haunting at Old Alabama Town, Market Day is a chance to see the grounds and buildings from the early 19th and 20th centuries in a whole new light.

“All the buildings are going to be open, so people can tour through them, self-guided,” Martin said. She said they have information on the buildings available, as well as QR codes that people can scan.

Martin said they’re anticipating more than 400 guests for Market Day.

“It’s something that I want to grow, and we have plenty of property to grow it on,” Martin said.

The main entrance is at Lucas Tavern, 310 N. Hull St., but gates will also be open on Jefferson and Columbus streets, Martin said.

Around 25 vendors will be set up inside of Old Alabama Town’s living block, and will include:

• Arden’s Arcanum candles
• Cam’s Creations
• Christie Mason: pound cakes and brittle
• Fruit and Flora: baked good and jams
• Homestead Candles with fall scents
• Kathy Bodiford: Christmas decorations
• Lisa Lenox: bottle tree pottery
• Sarah Tanner Art
• Simply Succulents: variety of plants
• Smith & Mode clothing and jewelry
• Stacy VanDortrecht: bee products and fresh honey
• Old Alabama Town Gift Shop: a variety of Christmas gifts, goods and books
• Treasured Tropical plants

Funky Forte’s food truck will be on site. Martin said beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available. 

As a special treat this year, Baldwin Arts and Academic School students will perform a showcase of their musical talents with strings, keyboards, guitars, and vocalists.

“It’s amazing what kind of talent we have in middle schoolers,” Martin said.

 After that, the Old Alabama Town Revue will perform with Karren Pell.
