Movie based on Vicky White, Casey White escape from Alabama jail, manhunt debuts on streaming service

From disappearance to manhunt to the tragic end of a life, the story of Vicky White and Casey White appeared to have drama that could only come from a film script.

While Lauderdale County Assistant Director of Corrections Vicky and jail inmate Casey’s (no relation) 11 days on the run was a real-life drama, a film based on Vicky aiding Casey’s escape and the manhunt for the pair has gotten the small screen treatment.

“Prisoner of Love” debuted on Tubi, the Fox Entertainment-owned free streaming service, on Wednesday.

“A corrections officer falls in love with an inmate and helps plot his escape, leaving her hometown to question her choices,” reads the summary on the film’s website.

Or as text during the film’s title sequence puts it, “Prisoner of Love” is “based on a true story … although no one ever really knows what happens in a secret romance.”

Casey White had been in north Alabama jails off and on during his prison stay for various court proceedings.

The couple escaped from the jail on April 29, which launched a nationwide manhunt until they were cornered during a police chase in Evansville, Indiana on May 9 where they crashed.

Casey White was taken into custody and Vicky White died by suicide as law enforcement officers closed in on the pair.

Following his capture, Casey White was returned to Donaldson prison in Bessemer to await trial for the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway, which was postponed Monday.
