Will Anderson Jr. earns Rotary Lombardi Award to punctuate Alabama career

Will Anderson Jr. continues to pile up accolades for Alabama after taking home the Rotary Lombardi Award.

As it has remained for the last decade-plus, Alabama football has remained the class of the SEC. This also includes its mystique level of NFL talent, including the likes of junior linebacker, Will Anderson Jr.

Anderson Jr. earned the Rotary Lombardi Award, according to a press release from The Rotary Club of Houston Thursday night. The 49th recipient, Anderson’s accomplishments, both on and off the field, have made him stand out amongst the nation’s best. He was part of a finalists class that included Brock Bowers and Jalen Carter (Georgia) and Tuli Tuipulotu (USC).

”In the 2022 season, Will has recorded 17.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks, leading the SEC and Top-10 nationally. Though opponents have decided to prepare and target Will with double and triple-teams, he has been unofficially credited with 60 quarterback pressures leading college football,” a snippet of the release stated.

Anderson Jr. was part of a Crimson Tide team that ranked 15th in the FBS in points per game, only giving up 18. Anderson Jr. forced 28 solo tackles and helped his team win some key games, including wins against Texas, Auburn, No. 20 Arkansas and No. 11 Ole Miss, to name a few.

When is Alabama, Will Anderson Jr.’s final game?

Alabama was, in some people’s eyes, one of the few two-loss teams that could make the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately for the Tide, those hopes were dashed when No. 4 Ohio State became the last team to enter the fold.

With that reality, ‘Bama will play on New Years Eve, capping off 2022 against Kansas State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. A win for Alabama would conclude another double-digit year for Nick Saban and Co., as its SEC dominance continues.

The game will air on ESPN, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. ET and with Alabama currently favored at -3.5.
