Hello and Welcome back to the channel.
In this episode we leave Hidden Cove RV park to travel to Phil Campbell, AL to hike the floor of Dismal’s Canyon.
When arriving at Dismal’s Canyon (THE ONE AND ONLY) public restroom is just to the side of the parking lot! So, if you need to go, you may want to take care of business before you walk down to the shop to register.
The store has a beautiful outdoor space to sit and relax before or after your journey.
You must register for the hike or to get access to the observatory past the store. If you plan on hiking you must first sign a waiver.
The hike is absolutely gorgeous! well worth the time and money you will spend to see it!
The hike itself is considered a MODERATE 1.5 mile hike. If you are older just be aware that there are many steps and obstacles that you will need to traverse to complete the entire trail. The trail is not paved after you descend into the canyon. There are rocks, trees, and creeks to cross, so I would recommend that you wear the proper footwear. Your feet will get wet at least once or twice during the hike.
All in all we had a great time! Just keep in mind the time of year and day that you visit will greatly impact the amount of people and activity in the canyon. When we visited it was after Labor Day and the crowds were at a minimum, but the food services at the store were on a limited schedule as well. So you may call ahead and check on these things if they are pivotal to your experience.
