Percy Jackson Creator Teases Epic Ares Action Scenes In Disney+ Show

Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan teases that there will be some epic Ares action scenes in the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians show.

The creator of Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan, is already teasing some massive action scenes featuring Ares in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. After the original Percy Jackson movies failed to be a proper adaptation of the books, Disney+ decided to greenlight an adaptation of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief as a live-action TV show. With Riordan present on-set to help ensure that the adaptation is as book-accurate as possible, the production seems dedicated to portraying a world aligned with his vision and the overall narrative of the books.

In a recent post on Mastodon, Riordan teased the majesty of a fight in Percy Jackson and the Olympians that features the iconic god Ares. Check out his post below:

One central element that Riordan is teasing is the appearance of the gods. Percy Jason and the Olympians revolves around the ancient Greek gods, so it needs to make them relatable figures in a modern context while also working to adapt their historical might properly. So, while Ares will need to be comprehensible in a contemporary context, the god of war will still need to terrify Camp Half-Blood.

What Role Will Ares Play In Percy Jackson And The Olympians

Percy Jackson and the olympians

As one of the twelve Olympian gods, Ares is an exceptionally powerful figure with many loyal children living in Camp Half-Blood. While he will initially appear to be just another Olympian, he will play a massive part in the story of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Ares actor is already teasing his role as the personal antagonist for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, as they are on their quest to reclaim Zeus’ Lightning Bolt. With his interests aligned with the true thief, the sadistic god seeks only to cause more chaos in the narrative, which makes him a severe threat to Percy’s safety.

Everything We Know About Percy Jackson And The Olympians

Percy Jackson

Unlike the original Percy Jackson movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians features a much younger cast. Walter Scobell (The Adam Project) is set to star as Percy, Leah Jeffries (Beast) will play Annabeth, and Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen) will be playing Grover. While Logan Lerman can’t return to Percy Jackson, as he has already pointed out that he is both too old to play Percy and too young to play Poseidon, the cast makes up for it by including star-studded actors Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Timothy Omundson (Starship Troopers), Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash), and Jason Mantzoukas (The Lego Batman Movie).

The Disney+ production is set to be a faithful adaptation of the Percy Jackson book series, and Riordan’s involvement ensures that the show will not stray as far from its roots as the movie did, which is an excellent sign for the franchise. Though Scobell is already teasing it, the release date for Percy Jackson and the Olympians has not yet been revealed, and filming is still ongoing. A late 2023 or early 2024 release is possible, though it could also arrive later in 2024. When it does come, Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney+, and Ares will be there to provide as much chaos as he can.
