Nearly three years since opening its doors in Birmingham, Dread River Distilling Co. will launch its inaugural bourbon.
Distilled from a mash bill of corn, wheat and malted barley, Dread River’s newest release is a straight bourbon, aged over two years and is finished in Caribbean rum casks, while being bottled at 90 proof.
“Bourbon is what got into this business to create. That has been the goal from day one, and almost since day one, we have been laying down barrels of bourbon, waiting for today,” Dread River co-founder Jeff Dugas said in a press release. “It has been an incredible journey to get here and we are very proud of everything we have accomplished in creating this product.”
Dread River will have two launch events before the spirit’s statewide release. Pre-sale orders of the bourbon have already started and the spirit will also be available in limited quantities at the distillery during Dread River’s pre-release party weekend from April 8 to April 10.
Dread River will officially launch the bourbon during the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park, with specialty cocktails, complimentary tastings, and bottle sales throughout race weekend from April 29 to May 1.
The bourbon will be available statewide via the Alabama ABC distribution network, for both wholesale and retail purchase, beginning May 1.
