An investigation is underway after human remains were found in rural Lamar County.
District Attorney Andy Hamlin said a citizen made the discovery Tuesday morning in the 1700 block of Old Calvert Road in Sulligent.
Hamlin did not release any additional details but said multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation including the 24th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.
The remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to confirm his or her identity.
Hamlin said further information will be released as the investigation continues
