Alabama Utility Workers Turned Away By Union- Erika Lathon

Workers from Decatur Utilities say they returned home after being stalled in Virginia amid Union Requirements. General Manager, Ray Hardin says his crews were presented with documents from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that required them to affiliate with the union. He says “it was something that we could not agree to and it was our understanding and still is that that was a requirement of working in the area.” After sitting idle for most of the day Thursday, the Decatur Utilities workers returned home to Alabama. According to a statement from the IBEW, “it is the policy of this union and the companies we represent to welcome assistance during natural disasters- regardless of union status.”
