A 38-year-old woman has been charged in a shooting at a Birmingham pool party that left one person dead, and two others injured.
Jessica Threatt is charged with murder in the June 12 slaying of 24-year-old Frankie Keonte McDonald. She is also charged with two counts of attempted murder.
She is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling more than $1.6 million.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin said South Precinct officers responded at 10:30 p.m. that Sunday to a report of shots fired at the High Pointe Apartments on Beacon Parkway East.
When officers got on the scene, they heard multiple gunshots and encountered a large group of people running from the pool area.
They found McDonald in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Multiple bystanders were attempting to help him.
McDonald was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.
Mauldin said two other victims, ages 17 and 21, were taken to area hospitals by private vehicle. Their injuries weren’t life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation indicates several people were attending a pool party and an altercation ensued among Threatt, who lived there, and partygoers leading to the resident retrieving a weapon.
Ultimately several shots were fired.
Officers responded and encountered Threatt armed with a rifle.
During the encounter, an officer discharged a firearm. The suspect was not struck nor was there other injuries resulting from the officer’s discharge.
Threatt fled into a nearby apartment and was taken into custody.
