From the Prattville Police Department
There are several posts being made recently which contain false information regarding unknown subjects being sought for various violent acts (such as robbery, assault, etc.) in Pratttville, Millbrook, Wetumpka, etc. These posts are also being sent to groups in other areas of the state (probably nationwide), with the original posters’ accounts listing them as living overseas.
As is typical with social media, these posts are being re-posted over and over again without users verifying the validity of the information, possibly causing people unnecessary concern. It is unknown why these posts exist, likely a way to get information on those that either like, comment or share them.
The Prattville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will always release this type of information to the public in an official manner as soon as possible, especially if there is an immediate concern for public safety (such as the post made recently by the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office official Facebook account and local media outlets). The information on these posts are not coming from law enforcement, nor is there any validity to the information being presented either.
If you see posts like this on social media and cannot find any related information with your local law enforcement agency, report them the group admins. You can also always contact your local agency to verify if the information being posted is valid.
