Two people were injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Birmingham’s Apple Valley neighborhood late Friday night.Birmingham police responded to Monarch Ridge Apartments in the 2900 block of Gallant Drive just before midnight and arrived to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to the hospital, where their conditions are unknown.No word yet what led to the shooting or if any arrests have been made.The apartment complex has a long history of violent crimes. In 2021, the city of Birmingham filed a nuisance lawsuit against the owners of the property over a series of gun-related crimes in early 2021, including two homicides. The ownership group and the city eventually agreed to a settlement that required an increase in security protocols at the complex, formerly known as Valley Brook Apartments. Jefferson County Circuit Court was given jurisdiction for one year to enforce the terms of the agreement.
