48-year-old ID’d as woman found slain in southwest Birmingham home

Authorities have released the name of a woman found slain in a southwest Birmingham home.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Christina Marie Torres. She was 48.

Birmingham police responded just after 9 a.m. Wednesday to the house at 313 Sixth Street S.W. Initially officers believed the death to be unclassified, but later changed the classification to homicide, said Sgt. Rod Mauldin.

Torres was found unresponsive inside the home, and pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service at 9:22 a.m.

Authorities have not said how Torres was killed. No arrests have been made.

The victim is Birmingham’s 64th homicide this year. Of those, five have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 87 homicides, including the 64 in Birmingham.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
