Big Boi, Lupe Fiasco, Big Head Todd join World Games lineup


Big Boi, Lupe Fiasco, and Big Head Todd are joining the all-star lineup of performers at 2022 World Games.

The musicians are on the roster of musical acts set for the stage at The World Games Plaza, a four-block portion of Citywalk BHAM will be dedicated to international sports competition, which will run from July 7 to the 17th. The World Games Plaza, which is sponsored by Regions Bank, will have a stage with programming and entertainment every day from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The World Games has released the lineup of World Games Plaza performers on its website. Also on the roster: more than 30 dance troupes, bands, and performers, including acts that auditioned for this year’s World Games Talent Search.

The lineup includes: Alabama Agni, Ballet Folklórico Corazón Azteca, Birmingham Community Mass Choir, Birmingham Waist Drum Troupe, Clog Wild Cloggers, Dala, DJ Lenny, DJ Mami Chula, DJ Primetime & Trevor Lee, DJ Stormy, DJ Xzact, Heartbeat Dance Company, IV Motion, Jasmine Dance Ensemble, Jessica Bostany, Kings of Brass, La Tropa Kumbiambera, Logan the Entertainer, Mariachi Premier de America, Mary Elizabeth Madden, Matt Prater, MJFitSelect, Notinee Indian Dance, Red Apple Dance Company, Revolution Band, Sherri Brown, Shivalaya School of Dance, The Party Rockers, The Sozo Children’s Choir, Tristen Gressett, Walker Burroughs.

According to graphics on The World Games website, entertainment at the plaza will be divided into performers on either the main stage or the sound stage. So far, Big Head Todd is listed to perform on Friday, July 8; Lupe Fiasco is listed to perform on Saturday, July 9; and Big Boi and Sleepy Brown as listed to perform on Wednesday, July 13. All three are listed on the main stage.

A number of DJs, bands, and cultural acts are slated to perform on the sound stage, according to the graphic. As of Monday morning, the sound stage lists slots for DJs, Emcees, talent search performers, live bands, and sports demonstrations. Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, and Masego are also listed as performers on the sound stage.

The World Games Plaza will also boast a number of food trucks and vendors. The food trucks will be available from 11 a.m. to – 7 p.m., according to The World Games website.

Musical performances on The World Games Plaza stages will complement the roster of musicians performing at Protective Stadium during the opening and closing ceremonies of the games, a lineup that includes Alabama, Yolanda Adams, Nelly, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Young Bleu. Leading the charge will be Parliament-Funkadelic veteran and space-age bassist Bootsy Collins, who will grace the stage as the master of ceremonies. Legendary pop and R&B star, Lionel Richie is set to headline the closing ceremonies. The performance will mark the first time Richie, who is a Tuskegee native, has graced a stage in his home state in more than 20 years.
