Here are the races in today’s runoffs in Georgia and Alabama

ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia Democrats were choosing their nominee for secretary of state in primary runoff elections. They’re voting on a position that assumed new importance after former President Donald Trump cast doubt on Georgia’s 2020 election results, making false claims of widespread voter fraud. Democrats will also be selecting candidates for lieutenant governor, labor commissioner, insurance commissioner and two congressional seats. Republicans will be voting in three congressional races. That includes a rollicking runoff between Mike Collins and Vernon Jones in the 10th District east of Atlanta. There are also some state legislative races on the ballot.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama’s Republican primary for U.S. Senate pits a candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump against a candidate whom Trump previously endorsed. Congressman Mo Brooks was a staunch Trump supporter when he lost the former president’s endorsement in part for saying it was time to move on from the 2020 election. Trump then chose to back retiring Sen. Richard Shelby’s former chief of staff, Katie Britt. Other states conducting elections Tuesday are Virginia and Georgia. In Washington, D.C., Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser is seeking reelection amid concerns over rising crime.
