Homicide probe underway after woman found dead at southwest Birmingham home


An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead at a southwest Birmingham home.

Birmingham police responded just after 9 a.m. Wednesday to the house at 313 Sixth Street S.W. Initially officers believed the death to be unclassified, but later changed the classification to homicide, said Sgt. Rod Mauldin.

The victim as found unresponsive inside the home, and pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

No additional information has been released.

The victim is Birmingham’s 64th homicide this year. Of those, five have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 87 homicides, including the 64 in Birmingham.
