Ladd-Peebles shooting suspect jailed on attempted murder charges

One of the suspects in the shooting at Ladd-Peebles Stadium last year that injured five people was jailed Tuesday on attempted murder and other charges, according to jail records.

Hezekiah Belfon, 20, was on the run for five months before being captured in Florida in March.

On Tuesday, Belfon was jailed on charges of attempted murder, pistol in a vehicle and second-degree receiving stolen property, according to jail and court records.

Before his capture, Belfon was described by Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine as armed and dangerous. He was also on Mobile’s Most Wanted list.

Police contended Belfon fired into the crowd at the stadium in October 2021 during a high school football game between LeFlore and Williamson high schools.

Another suspect, 20-year-old Deangelo Parnell, was sentenced to five years in prison on attempted murder charges following a plea deal with prosecutors.

Video from the scene, as well as a series of photos shot by a photographer covering the event for AL.com, show people scrambling and ducking for cover after shots rang out
