Normally, we’d tell you to hold off on buying patio furniture. Normally, we’d tell you to wait until the end-of-season patio furniture sales after Labor Day, when retailers become desperate to offload it and offer great discounts.
But this is not a normal year. In fact, it’s another “new normal” year. And retailers are desperate to offload bulky patio and porch products NOW — during the season you can still use it.
That’s because some big retailers (including Walmart and Target) over-ordered a lot of home items during the supply chain snags at the end of last year. That stuff has arrived. But inflation has shoppers tightening their budgets, and the home-goods buying frenzy of the pandemic has waned. Now, shoppers are focused on groceries, beauty items and back-to-the-world clothing, according to retailers’ updated projections, meaning retailers need to get the big, bulky stuff they ordered out of warehouses FAST.
The good news for shoppers: That means sales. Target has already announced it will be re-optimizing its inventory by offering “additional markdowns.”
Therefore, we’re seeing some of the best in-season patio furniture and fire pit sales ever as retailers try to move that inventory OUT. And, since they bought too much, the selection is really good. So instead of shopping those end-of-season sales and picking over whatever mismatched furniture is left, you’re shopping in a sweet spot of low prices and high selection.

Target’s patio and outdoor furniture is stylish and affordable. Now it’s even more affordable. It’s been letting “30% off” ride since Memorial Day, and the selection is far from picked-over (but selling fast).
