It appears that inflation may be putting a damper on one of the biggest sales of the year. In our recent survey, we found that shoppers plan to be more budget-conscious during Amazon Prime Day, spending an average of $388, compared to last year’s $594.
But, even if you can’t go big this year on spendy tech, beauty and fashion purchases, know this: Amazon Prime Day offers a lot of really practical deals that help you side-step inflation. Don’t think of it as defeating inflation — think of it as dodging the full impact of its blows.
So here’s what to keep an eye out for for a savings-savvy Prime Day. We’ll be keeping this list up to date as Amazon officially announces its deals for Prime Day.

Get 20% Off Groceries
Starting June 29, Prime members can get 20% off select everyday essentials at Amazon Fresh stores across the U.S. To get this benefit, just scan your Amazon app at the register and pay with the card registered to your prime account.
Look for Amazon Basics Deals
Amazon Basics is Amazon’s line of, well, basics. All those things you don’t think of until they break or run out. All those things that are annoyingly expensive now, due to inflation. Think batteries, pet supplies, office supplies, towles, hangers and brooms.
Amazon has offered discounts on its Basics line during Prime Days past (starting as early as the week before Prime Day). So make your shopping list and check back. Last year, we saw discounts of up to 40% on Amazon Basics products during Prime Day, so the savings potential is big.
Stock Your Pantry With Deals on Amazon Food Brands
Amazon has a history of offering percent-off discounts during Prime Day on its food brands, which include Happy Belly, Vedaka, Wickedly Prime and the AmazonFresh line. Last year, we saw Prime Day discounts of 20% off Amazon’s food brands.
If you know you’ll need to frequently buy a certain product, make sure you sign up for Subscribe & Save, to have that product automatically delivered to you at a discount. Subscribe & Save discounts usually cap out at 15%, but Amazon likes to surprise Prime shoppers with an extra-big discount on their first order. Those special offers look like this:
Restock Your Supply Closets
Trash bags, cleaning supplies, mouthwash, bandages and vitamins are things that have a long shelf life and are worth stocking up on. During Prime Days past, we’ve seen percent-off discounts on Amazon’s impressively wide-ranging Solimo brand, which carries all those items above and so much more. Check out the selection in advance to make your shopping list, so you can pounce when Amazon officially announces its Prime Day specials. Last year, we saw 20% off Solimo household essentials during Prime Day.
Re-Up on Baby Essentials
Amazon’s Mama Bear line has diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, vitamins, pacifiers and all the many things you are constantly running to the store to buy when you have a baby. The line is already affordable, and you can expect Prime Day deals to be offered as well. In addition, many items from the Mama Bear line are eligible for boosted Subscribe & Save discounts, so stack those savings while buying stacks of diapers and wipes. Last year, Prime Day brought discounts of 30% on Mama Bear products.
Pick Up Some Pet Necessities
You knew owning a pet was expensive when you brought yours home. But inflation has really redefined “expensive.” Luckily, Amazon’s Solimo line has dog treats, puppy pads, flea & tick treatments and more. Expect other brands of pet essentials to offer their own Prime Day deals, too.
Last year, we saw Amazon offer 20% off Solimo pet supplies, as well as deals on pet beds.
