NEIGHBORS ARE SHOCKED. REPORTER: THIS IS WHAT RESIDENTS IN THE WAKEFIELD AND WELLINGTON APARTMENT COMPLEX SAW AS THEY LOOKED OUT THERE DOOR FRIDAY NIGHT. >> THERE ARE AMBULANCES OUT THERE, POLICE ARE OUT THERE. NONE OF US KNEW ANYTHING, WHICH WAS JUST REALLY CHAOTIC. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON, WE DID NOT KNOW WHO IT WAS. REPORTER: 41-YEAR-OLD SHEMETHIA COTEAT WAS KILLED OUTSIDE HER HOME. >> I MAY HAVE HEARD WHAT WAS THE LAST OF THE SHOTS. REPORTER: AN AUTOPSY SHOWS SHE WAS SHOT FOUR TIMES FROM BEHIND WHILE GETTING ITEMS FROM THE BACKSEAT OF HER VEHICLE. NEIGHBORS SAY SHE WAS A KIND-HEARTED PERSON, BUT WHAT THEY FOUND MORE DISTURBING JUST MOMENTS BEFORE SHE WAS GUNNED DOWN THERE WERE CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE SAME AREA. >> MY CHILD AND HER YOUNGEST MAYBE 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE SITUATION TRANSPIRED. REPORTER: ACCORDING TO POLICE REPORTS EARLY INDICATIONS SHOW SHE WAS SPECIFICALLY TARGETED, LEAVING FRIENDS AND FAMILY WITH THE QUESTION OF WHY. EVERYDAY MOM. SHE WOULD COME TO SCHOOL, ANY TIME THERE WAS SOMETHING GOING ON AFTER SCHOOL, SHE WOULD BE THERE. WE WOULD ALL SPEAK AND ALL SMILE. Reward being offered for tips in 2020 ambush killing in Hoover

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama and the Hoover Police Department are offering up to $5,000 for information in the 2020 ambush shooting death of 41-year-old Shemethia Tynise Coteat.Police said Coteat was shot four times from behind as she retrieved items from the back seat of her car in the parking lot at The Park at Wellington and Wakefield apartments on Feb. 14, 2020. Police said Coteat was “specifically targeted” but the motive remains a mystery. “The Hoover Police Department remains determined and committed in our efforts to solve this murder,” Hoover PD said in a news release Monday. “It is our hope that reward money will encourage someone to make the phone call that will provide the information that we need. Below are some relevant pieces of information that are already known to detectives who are working this case. We believe that there are individuals who know more and may have additional information that will be the final piece that leads to an arrest of the person(s) responsible for this horrible crime.”If you know anything about this homicide, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 or Hoover Police Detective Brad Fountain at 205-444-7562.
