Even as we’re still putting the finishing touches on our haunted Halloween homes, retailers like Amazon and Target have us rethinking the addition of that Santa Claus hat on top of our gigantic 12-foot skeleton’s head.

If Target’s fall Deal Days (Oct. 6 to Oct. 8) and Amazon’s holiday Prime Day events (Oct. 11 to Oct. 12) didn’t give you a jolt, going from scaring the bejesus out of neighborhood kids to your jovial ho-ho-holiday spirit, then you better hold on to your Halloween pumpkins.

Target casually and coolly released a 33-page preview of its Black Friday-themed ad with deals that run Oct. 9 through Oct. 15. The ad’s Black Friday theme should give you an inkling that the holiday season is ramping up early. Is this the real and only Black Friday ad Target is planning for the holidays? Almost certainly not, and here’s why.

Just like in 2021, Black Friday-like deals have been trickling in since the beginning of October, meaning the savings are starting extra early again this year. For another year, Target has released early holiday deals and even mentioned that the October Deal Days event is “3 Days of Black Friday Deals.”

Before you set up the Christmas tree next to the cackling witch in the corner, the deals really aren’t surprising. On virtually every page, Target announced Target Circle members get $10 off a $50 or more toy purchase and $25 off a $100 or more toy purchase.

Why isn’t this spectacular? Because Target often offers this discount during the holidays (and even throughout the year), so it’s really not anything new. But, if you’re looking for this year’s hottest toy, the Magic Mixies Crystal Ball, buy it now and get $10 off because it might go out of stock, along with other popular toys making the rounds this holiday season. So, what does this hype mean?

Essentially, it means more Black Friday deals are in the forecast. Target likes to get their customers excited about shopping for the upcoming holidays by including phrases that do the trick — like “Black Friday,” “Black Friday Specials” and “holiday sales,” to name a few.

Basically, while the Target Black Friday sale is super shoppable, don’t do all your holiday shopping at once. Grab the most important gifts and wait to see what’s next. Don’t forget, Target price matches so if you plan to shop early, no matter when you make a purchase, if the price of that item goes down before Dec. 24, Target will reimburse the difference. You really are getting the lowest prices all season long.

Target Black Friday Sale Calendar: A Look Back

2021 — Target launched its official 60-page Black Friday ad for its sale starting Nov. 21 through Nov. 27. Although stores were closed on Thanksgiving Day, that didn’t stop Target from dropping deals online for antsy shoppers. Before that, the retailer hyped its “Holiday Best” deals starting Oct. 31, changing weekly until its Black Friday sale.

2020 — A weird year all around, the official Black Friday sale ran from Nov. 22 through Nov. 28, but deals started rolling out on Nov. 1. Target featured three rounds of early “Black Friday NOW” deals, dropping every Thursday in November — Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 — each lasting for one week.

2019 — The Black Friday sale began on Nov. 27 (for Target RedCard holders and Target Circle members only). It opened up to everyone else online on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28) and in stores starting at 5 p.m. later that day. Target hosted a Black Friday Preview sale on Nov. 8 to Nov. 9, featuring numerous doorbusters.

Target Black Friday Store Hours

Target announced its stores will close on Thanksgiving Day forever last year, joining a growing list of retailers opting to remain closed. They haven’t announced the Black Friday store hours for 2022, but we’ll give you an update as soon as they do. Last year, most Target stores opened at 7 a.m. on Black Friday with new Black Friday deals offered online on Thanksgiving Day.

Target Holiday Shipping Options

  • You can get free two-day shipping on hundreds of thousands of items when you spend $35 or use your RedCard.
  • Target has same-day delivery through Shipt as well. New users can start with a free four-week trial. After that, an annual Shipt plan is $99 for unlimited orders of $35 or more.
  • Another option is to make an order online and pick it up in store at a Target near you. You can browse “Order Pickup” eligible items on Target’s site or in the Target app.

Target’s Curbside Pickup Options

Target’s Curbside Pickup option lets you order eligible clothing, home items, electronics, pantry staples, and even perishable groceries online for pickup. Make your purchase online, wait for a notification that your order is ready, pull up in a designated “Drive Up” spot and a Target team member will load the items in your car (no personal contact required).
