A well-cooked, perfectly seasoned turkey is the centerpiece of most Thanksgiving Day tables each year on the fourth Thursday in November. With most stores staying closed once again on Thanksgiving Day, your guests might spend more time grazing throughout the kitchen, and that means keeping everything stocked and ready. Once you add up all the extra sides and fixins’ that go with it, your grocery budget is likely blown for the next month.
According to the USDA’s National Turkey Retail Report, whole turkeys will cost roughly $1.99 a pound. This is significantly more compared to this time last year when turkey cost approximately $1.23 per pound. So, finding ways to save money and feed your family a feast made for a king is a top priority heading into the holiday season.
Fortunately, plenty of retailers are giving away free turkeys in November to members of their loyalty rewards programs or customers meeting the minimum spending threshold. Most of these programs are free to join (except for warehouses and subscription plans) — and to get a free turkey, you just have to cash in those loyalty points or spend the minimum amount.
These are the retailers offering free turkeys in 2022:
1. Acme Markets Free Turkey
Acme will give you a free frozen turkey for Thanksgiving when you spend at least $300 in-store and clip the digital coupon from now through Nov. 24. Choose from a 10- to 22-pound Signature Farms® frozen turkey or a 4- to 7-pound frozen turkey breast. Find an Acme Markets store near you.
2. BJ’s Free Turkey
If you’re a BJ’s member, between Nov. 1 and Nov. 10, when you spend $150 or more in the same transaction, either in-club or online, you’ll get a digital coupon for a free Butterball whole turkey (fresh or frozen). You’ll pick it up starting Nov. 12 to Nov. 23 (while supplies last).
3. ButcherBox Free Turkey
Sign up for a ButcherBox subscription plan by Nov. 14 and get a 10- to 14-pound turkey for free with your first ButcherBox delivery.
4. Foodtown Free Turkey or Gift Card
Foodtown customers in the Northeast who use their club card to purchase $400 or more between now and Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24) can get a free frozen turkey (10 to 20 pounds). Don’t want a frozen turkey? Foodtown lets you pick a $10 store gift card instead.
5. Giant Food Stores Free Turkey + More
From now through Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24), use your CHOICE Rewards card to earn points on all your purchases at Giant. When you reach 400 points, you can redeem them for one of the following:
- Free frozen Our Brand turkey (up to 20 pounds).
- $1 per pound off the price of any other turkey (up to 20 pounds).
- Free Stouffer’s Party Size Lasagna.
- Free Tofurkey Roast.
- Donate your CHOICE points and Giant donates $10 on your behalf to local food banks.
Redeem your coupon between Nov. 11 and Nov. 24 both in-store or online.
6. H-E-B Free Turkey
H-E-B is giving customers a free 12-pound Riverside turkey with the purchase of an H‑E‑B spiral ham. Find an H-E-B store near you.
7. Hy-Vee Buy a Ham, Get a Turkey
When you buy a Cure 81 Ham for $3.99 a pound at Hy-Vee, you’ll receive a free honeysuckle white turkey AND 50 cents toward your Fuel Saver card for each Cure 81 ham you purchase. Plus, you can order ready-to-serve holiday meals, too.
8. ShopRite Free Turkey or Ham
Use your Price Plus club card every time you check out at ShopRite between now and Nov. 24, and you’ll get the choice of one of the following for free:
- ShopRite All Natural Frozen Turkey (up to 21 pounds) or $1.89 per pound off any other fresh or frozen turkey (up to 21 pounds).
- $1.89/lb off (up to 21 pounds) Empire or any other kosher turkey.
- ShopRite Grade “A” or Shady Brook frozen turkey breast (6 to 9 pounds) or $2.29/lb off any other fresh or frozen turkey breast or kosher turkey breast
- Empire or any other kosher frozen roasting chicken (up to 7 pounds).
- Stouffer’s frozen lasagna (any variety of 90- to 96-ounce size).
