8 Ways to Save More on Grubhub Orders

I still remember the first time I used Grubhub: It was the mid-aughts, and I ordered takeout from a Chinese joint in downtown Chicago at 1 a.m. It tasted delicious. It felt revolutionary.

Since that formative night, Grubhub — founded in Chicago in 2004 as one of the first online restaurant delivery platforms — has blossomed into a massive food delivery empire, with a network of more than 320,000 restaurants in over 4,000 U.S. cities. Grubhub serves up 715,000+ daily orders to more than 32 million diners.

With the easy-peasy-to-use Grubhub app or desktop site, you can order everything from breakfast burritos to barbecues to banana bread from your favorite food joints.

The best part? Ordering tasty restaurant meals right to your doorstep doesn’t have to be expensive. You can quell your cravings for less money with these eight hacks for saving money on GrubHub:

Get Free Delivery With Grubhub+

Grubhub+ is a monthly food delivery subscription service that includes unlimited free delivery on orders of $12+ from most restaurants. As a member, you also get a $10 credit each month to use toward a meal, plus perks and rewards with every order. And if you donate your change to a charity at checkout, Grubhub will match it.

The catch? After a free trial, membership costs $9.99 per month. However! The membership fee essentially pays for itself if you order around three meals on Grubhub per month, since most delivery fees are $3.99 or more.

Aren’t sure Grubhub+ will be a good fit? You can test out the service in a free trial. Depending on the promotion, the Grubhub+ free trial typically runs between 14 and 30 days.

Get Grubhub+ for Free for a Year With Amazon Prime

If you are a member of Amazon Prime, you’re in luck! Amazon recently partnered with Grubhub to offer an entire year of Grubhub+ membership for free.

As an Amazon Prime member, you get one year of Grubhub+ for free. To access the Grubhub Amazon Prime offer, log in to your Prime account and click “Activate Free Grubhub.”

Not a Prime Member? You still have the option to join Prime and access the Grubhub Amazon Prime deal. Amazon Prime costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year, and includes perks like free same-day and two-day shipping, unlimited Prime video streaming and access to members-only deals and sales like Amazon Prime Day.

Get Grubhub+ for Free for a Year With Bank of America

Amazon isn’t the only big name that’s partnered with Grubhub. Bank of America, too, has teamed up with the delivery platform to offer a Grubhub+ subscription to cardholders.

Similar to the Grubhub Amazon Prime deal, the Grubhub Bank of America offer gets you one year of Grubhub+ for free. If you bank with Bank of America, you can sign up with your card to access the deal.

Join Grubhub Points to Earn Free Food

Not to be confused with Grubhub+, Grubhub Points is Grubhub’s new loyalty club that — unlike Grubhub+ — is free. The loyalty club hooks members back with 20 points back on every dollar spent on food at Grubhub (notably, alcohol, delivery fees and tips are excluded from earning points). Points can be exchanged for “Points Cash” to be used on future orders and other rewards.

To enroll in the Grubhub Points program, all you have to do is create a Grubhub account. You’ll be automatically enrolled in the program with a balance of 3,000 points to kick you off.

Refer a Friend to Grubhub for a $10 Grubhub Promo Code

Through the Grubhub refer a friend program, you have the opportunity to get a $10 Grubhub coupon for you and your friends. It works like this: You email or share a special referral link with your friends (you’re allowed to refer up to 20 of them). When they join Grubhub using your personal link and place their first order, they’ll get $10 off, and you’ll get a $10 Grubhub promo code.

Check out the Day’s Deals

Grubhub runs daily deals from national and local restaurants. Typically, these deals are structured as a dollar amount off a certain order, such as “$15 off your order of $15+.”

You can find Grubhub coupon offers listed in the GrubHub Perks section on the desktop site or by filtering your search results by “Offers” on the mobile app.

Get $5 Off Your Next Order If Your Food Arrives Late

The Grubhub Guarantee promises your delivery will arrive on time. If your order is late, Grubhub will make it up to you by taking $5 off your next order.

If your meal arrives late, you can take advantage of this guarantee by submitting a request through the Grubhub app. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account on the app.
  2. Find the order in question.
  3. Hit “Submit order for Grubhub Guarantee”.
  4. Follow the directions to create a request.

If your request is approved, Grubhub will credit your account $5.

Get the Lowest Price, And $5 Off Your Next Order If You Find a Lower Price

As part of its Grubhub Guarantee, the food service promises to offer the lowest price available. If you spot a lower price on a competitor app like Doordash, Uber Eats or Postmates, Grubhub will refund you the difference, and give you $5 off your next order to boot.

You can submit a request for a price match and $5 credit through the Grubhub app. Just follow the steps listed in the previous tip.
