While many stores are closed Christmas Day, some essential spots, from drugstores to supermarkets, are open. Plus, while most major chains are open on Christmas Eve, you can expect them to close earlier than usual.
The important thing is not to stress. This is the time of year we are meant to enjoy and be merry. Even if you never thought you’d be heading to stores ON Christmas, things come up. Maybe you forgot to buy a friend a present or you need a last-minute ingredient for a holiday dinner. If you do need to venture out on Christmas Day, there are limited stores open.
- Albertsons: Select Albertsons stores open on Christmas Day, but most will close by 3 p.m. As many locations are closed that day, it’s best to call ahead.
- 7-Eleven: Need a Slurpee to get through the day? Most 7-Eleven locations are open on Christmas.
- CVS: Many CVS Pharmacy locations will be open on Christmas, but some may be closed or have reduced hours. It’s a good idea to call ahead.
- QuikTrip: QuickTrip gas stations and convenience stores will be open on Christmas. “QuikTrip is open 24 hours a day and we look forward to seeing customers in our stores during the holiday season,” said Aisha Jefferson-Smith, QuikTrip’s Corporate Communications Manager in an email.
- RiteAid: Many locations will be open Christmas Day, but hours will vary by location, so it’s a good idea to call ahead.
- Safeway: Some Safeway stores are open on Christmas Day, but most will close at either 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. depending on location.
- Sheetz: This Mid-Atlantic restaurant and convenience chain is open 24 hours a day, every day, all year, including Christmas.
- Starbucks: Many Starbucks locations are open on Christmas, but store hours vary by location and stores may occasionally adjust their hours. Confirm hours using the Starbucks app.
- Walgreens: Most Walgreens stores will be open with adjusted operating hours from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. 24-hour locations and pharmacies will be open.

While only select stores are open on Christmas Day, you are far more likely to find a store open on Christmas Eve. This will give you a lot more options for those last-minute gifts or ingredients. Some even have extended hours on those days leading up to Christmas!.
