The first Black student to attend the University of Alabama will now have a building name all to herself after university administrators initially proposed that she share it with a former KKK leader and governor.

Autherine Lucy Foster, now 92, will be the sole namesake of Autherine Lucy Hall on the university’s main campus in Tuscaloosa starting Friday.
