Say ‘Hey Disney!’ To Bring Your Favorite Character to Life

As a leader in technology, it should come as no surprise when the juggernaut that is Amazon introduces new features to its line of Echo smart devices. And that’s just what the online retailer did at this year’s CES that wrapped up on Jan. 8.

For fans of Disney, it means a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Amazon and Disney. With the help of the creator of the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” Amazon Alexa devices will soon bring Disney, Pixar and “Star Wars” to life.

The “Disney Magical Companion” is the voice of Amazon’s AI assistant, Hey Disney! So, whether you’re home or vacationing at a Disney Resort hotel room, say the new Alexa wake word, “Hey Disney!,” through an Echo smart device for a response from your favorite Disney character.

Ask Hey Disney! for the weather and Olaf from “Frozen” might tell you it’s cold out. Or if you’re cooking, you can ask Hey Disney! for inspiration and play the soundscape from “Ratatouille.” The possibilities are endless.

The Hey Disney! feature will also work with Disney’s interactive MagicBand+, a wearable device visitors use at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort that lets you enter the park, redeem Lightning Lane access and more.

“Disney is the master storyteller, and its stories are so powerful for so many people. Now people can keep talking to a character and continue with the storyline when they go back to their room at the end of the day — or when they go home when the vacation is over. It’s gratifying to imagine that we’re a part of literally bringing that magic home.”

Aaron Rubenson, vice president of Alexa

Once available, Hey Disney! will be a free service at select Disney Resort hotels. Amazon customers will have to pay for the added benefit of using it at home through the Alexa Skills Store or with an Amazon Kids+ subscription.

Stay tuned.
