Things to do in Pensacola in January 2023: Ice skating, concerts

If you’re looking for things to do this month, you’ve come to the right place.

The month has already kicked off strong with ice skating, which started earlier this month and the Tall Ship Pinta docking for educational tours. But there is plenty more in store.

Tall Ship Pinta

When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Through Jan. 22
Where: Palafox Pier, 900 S. Palafox St.

A replica of Christopher Columbus’ famous ship will be open for dockside educational tours at Plaza de Luna. The Pinta was the first Ship to sight land in the “New World” on Oct. 12, 1492. The Pinta tours as a ‘sailing museum’ for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. Self-guided tours are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for kids age 5 to 16.

Ice Skating

When: Various times now through Jan. 29
Where: Pensacola Bay Center, 201 E. Gregory St.

The Pensacola Bay Center is hosting its seasonal public ice skating sessions through Jan. 29. All public skate sessions are held on the weekends and after Ice Flyers Home games. Sessions last an hour, and capacity is limited, so get your tickets early.

Adult and child tickets are $12 with skate rental included and $9 to skate with your own. Tickets are $9 per person for groups of 15 or more and includes skate rentals.

La vie Bohème

When: 6 p.m., Jan. 9
Where: The Cabaret, 101 S. Jefferson St.

The Cabaret is hosting a free showing of the opera and musical mashup, La Vie Boheme, in partnership with Pensacola Opera. La Bohème set the stage for one of Broadway’s biggest hits – RENT. Composer Jonathan Larson studied Puccini’s work intensely, “I analyzed the libretto, broke it down beat by beat,” Larson told the New York Times, and adapted the story from tuberculosis and the streets of Paris, to the East Village streets of Manhattan during the AIDS epidemic. His rock opera adaptation of the classic Italian opera hit the Broadway stage in 1996. Reservations aren’t required, but you must be 21 to enter.

Snowbird Hootenanny New Year, New Boots

When: 11 a.m., Jan. 12
Where: Flora-Bama Lounge, Package and Oyster Bar, 17401 Perdido Key Dr.

Visiting snowbirds are invited to the Florida-Alabama State Line for a series of Snowbird Hootenanny events to be held at the Flora-Bama. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite western wear to enjoy some live pickin’-and-grinnin’ music as well as games and door prizes, followed by a delicious lunch provided by the legendary Flora-Bama chefs. Admission for each event is $10 per person. Tickets are limited and can be purchased online at www.VisitPerdido.com, or in person at the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce.

Alexandra Kay live in concert

When: 7 to 11 p.m., Jan. 12
Where: 22 S. Palafox St.

Alexandra Kay is a country music artist with a voice said to be reminiscent of Dolly Parton, Alison Kraus and Leanne Womack. She will be performing live at Wild Greg’s Saloon on Jan. 12. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here: shorturl.at/aot48.

Brave New World, Starlin & glsnr at The Handlebar

When: 8 p.m., Jan. 13
Where: The Handlebar, 319 N. Tarragona St.

Shed G and Friends

When: Doors open at 5:30 p.m., show starts at 7:15 p.m., Jan. 14
Where: Casks and Flights, 121 S. Palafox St, Suite B

Casks and Flights presents Shed G and Friends, a stand up comedy show. There will be a cocktail hour and bottle specials for the evening featuring bottles of Cali red wine, Cali Gold and Cali Rose. Big Dog Day at Coastal County

When: 1 to 3 p.m., Jan. 14
Where: Coastal County Brewing, 3041 E. Olive Road

Coastal County is dedicating Jan. 14 to the big dogs and celebrating in the beer garden and dog park. The brewery will host several competitions that pay proper homage to the biggest of the big, including overall weigh, height, biggest paws and more. There will be dog-friendly vendors on site, specialty beer, food, dog treats and trainers from Revive K9 who will offer training tips and tricks.

Wiener Dog Race Night

When: 7:05 p.m., Jan. 14
Where: Pensacola Bay Center, 201 E. Gregory St.

MLK Weekend Celebration with Lebrado and Friends

When: 8 p.m. to midnight, Jan. 14
Where: The WAV Event Center, 4400 Mobile Highway

YIKES presents MO ALEXANDER @ Doc’s Hop Shop

YIKES Comedy Gathers the Funniest Nationally Touring Headliners along with local and regional Favorites for a night of laughs. CTRL ALT DRAG

When: 8:30 p.m., Jan. 19
Where: The Handlebar, 319 N. Tarragona St.

This is an alternative drag show hosted by Terrah Card at The Handlebar in Pensacola Florida. The show is ages 18+ with a $10 cover. It features a diverse punk drag cast, and there will also be vendors at the Handlebar selling goods as well as the trans-led organization, Strive.

Gallery Night Show with Cutthroat and Friends at Vinyl Music Hall

When: 6:30 p.m., Jan. 20
Where: Vinyl Music Hall, 2 S. Palafox St.

Vinyl Music Hall is hosting a free concert on Gallery Night, Jan. 20, featuring Cutthroat and friends. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will feature Dusty DeLuna, Brim, Christ Watley, Big V, Jimmy V, Cutthroat and DJ Slim will be at the table all night.

Gallery Night

When: 5 to 9 p.m., Jan. 20
Where: Downtown Pensacola

The first Gallery Night of the year happens on Jan. 20 and will get you in the festive spirit with unique Lunar New Year lights. There will be local artists, vendors and shops open and ready to celebrate the new year.

Plant Based Junk Food in Pensacola

Military Appreciation Night

Northwest Florida is home to a rich military community, and the Ice Flyers will show their gratitude to local service members through the second of three Military Appreciation Nights. Alice in Wonderland

For one day only, the streets of Pensacola will turn into a giant, escape room-style experience. Alice is trapped in Wonderland and time is running out to save her. Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and enter a virtual world of adventure, intrigue and impossible things at this immersive Alice in Wonderland event. Solve clues that just get curiouser and curiouser, take on mad and mischievous challenges, and uncover a dark conspiracy at the heart of Wonderland. Panhandle’s First annual Grand Drag Brunch

The Panhandle’s first annual Grand Drag Brunch promises to bring big hair, cold mimosas, bougie brunch and sassy queens. Kulture Kreated is teaming up with the Court of De Luna Event Space to bring the best performers in the area. 27th annual Cordova Mall Ball
