If thoughts of entering an Abercrombie & Fitch store conjure images of shirtless surfer dude-type teen boys and “natural” makeup-free girls, that’s because the brand built itself around a wholesome image mixed with coastal vibes and just a touch of prep. With dimmed lights, eardrum thumping music blasting into the halls of the mall, and strong whiffs of perfume hanging in the air, a trip to A&F was more than just picking out clothes — it was an experience.
While the brand ended the practice of the shirtless greeters in 2015 and moved away from requiring employees to have a certain look, it has maintained its prepster feel. However, the addition of kids and plus-sizes has helped the retailer stay relevant.
While Abercrombie seems to have hit their stride in the ’90s, they’ve actually been around since the 1890s. What started as a hunting and fishing store, soon became a distinguished clothing store, even dressing Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and JFK.
Now, with some 730 locations, the retailer shows no signs of slowing down. In 2018, after a massive rebrand, A&F surpassed $1 billion in online sales, proving the store was a force to be reckoned with in an overcrowded e-commerce market. But you can still expect to pay $40 to $60 for most regular-priced items.

No. Abercrombie doesn’t let you return items across their brands. If you buy something at Hollister, you must return it to Hollister. And the same goes for their other brands.

While this might seem silly for an adult to shop in the kids’ section, at Abercrombie, girls’ jeans go up to size 18, which roughly translates to women’s sizes 6 or 8. The retailer usually starts its annual Black Friday sale in the days — and sometimes even weeks — before the official date the day after Thanksgiving. So, start checking out Abercrombie online for snagging those early bird promos.
And according to BlackFriday.com, “In the last few years, we’ve come to expect Abercrombie to treat us to a reduction of 50% off select items and even 50% off store wide at some point over the Black Friday, Cyber Monday weekend. We have even seen up to 70% off on clearance items. So check in early and often.”
Abercrombie Semiannual Jean Sale
Abercrombie runs its jean sale twice a year, making it the best time to feed your denim obsession. Shop the retailer for 30% off your jeans toward the latter part of summer in August (Aug. 4-8 in 2022) just in time for back to school. It’s an opportunity to get free shipping with your jeans purchase, too.
Sometimes Abercrombie offers little treasures during these sales, which include 40% off all jeans and 25% off everything else (until Aug. 14).

8. Free Shipping at Abercrombie
Like most retailers, A&F doesn’t offer a lot of freebies. But one thing, more or less, is free shipping. Abercrombie normally charges $7 for standard shipping and $15 for two-day shipping. However, A&F offers online shoppers free shipping from time to time. It can be as “free shipping with a jean purchase” or “free shipping with a $99 purchase.”
Abercrombie doesn’t offer free shipping every day, it’s usually for a limited time. However, if you’re purchasing a gift card, it ships for free.

9. Get a Price Adjustment at Abercrombie
Abercrombie will give you a price adjustment if merchandise goes on sale within seven days from purchase. A couple of things: You have to take the merchandise with you to the store in its original condition and your receipt to get a refund of the price difference. And you can only receive one price adjustment per item.
10. Know the Abercrombie Return Policy
Like most retailers, you can return Abercrombie merchandise within 30 days for a full refund. The items must be in a resalable condition with a receipt, invoice, or order confirmation. If you return your merchandise after 30 days, you’ll receive a merchandise credit as an e-gift card to the email on your order.
An exception to the 30-day return policy is during the holidays. For merchandise you purchase between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, you’ll have until Jan. 31 of the following year to receive a full refund with a receipt, invoice, or order confirmation.
Note: Outlet merchandise can only be returned in an outlet location.
Does Abercrombie Have Free Returns?
Yes, if you’re returning or exchanging your merchandise in-store. But if you’re mailing your return, then no, it’s not free. Abercrombie charges $7 to return merchandise by mail, which is deducted from the price of your return. The only way to get a free return at Abercrombie is when you’re exchanging your merchandise and the color or size you want is no longer in stock. All exchanges are free.
Abercrombie will offer free shipping and free returns, so be on the lookout for those times.

Nearly 5 million shoppers follow @abercrombie on Insta, where you’ll find more style inspo and fewer sales announcements and ads. According to online job search sites, A&F employees get 50% off 10 items a month. You’ll also receive a maximum of 40% off merchandise. “Just be careful not to give your entire paycheck right back to Abercrombie,” advises Greutman.
13. Use Buy Now, Pay Later at Abercrombie
The retailer is a member of Klarna, a Swedish bank that allows you to pay for your purchases in installments, instead of all at once. “If you’re in a dire financial situation but still want to shop, signing up for Klarna is almost like a credit card without the commitment,” explains budget expert Lauren Greutman.
“It’s free to sign up for and allows you to split your transaction into four easy payments, which are billed every two weeks after your initial transaction,” she adds.
