vivo X90 Pro benchmarks – Dimensity 9200 examined

Following up on our in for review article, it’s time we bring you a closer look at the vivo X90 Pro and its benchmark scores. This is the first MediaTek Dimensity 9200 phone we’ve had our hands on and we were curious to see how it stacks up to the competition.

vivo X90 Pro benchmarks - Dimensity 9200 examined

Like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9200 utilizes the ARM Cortex-X3 boasting a prime core clocked at 3.05 Ghz (compared to 3.2GHz on the SD G2) and based on the ARMv9 architecture. The remaining cores are as follows: 3x Arm Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at 2.85GHz and 4x Arm Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz.

The new chip is fabbed on the 2nd generation TSMC 4nm process (N4P) and has the ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU with its hardware-based ray tracing engine.

MediaTek Dimensity 9200
Process TSMC 4nm (N4P)
Prime core 1 x Cortex-X3 @ 3.05 Ghz
Performance cores 3x Cortex-A715 @ 2.85GHz
Efficiency cores 4x Cortex-A510 cores @ 1.8GHz
GPU ARM Immortalis-G715
RAM LPDDR5x at up to 8,533Mbps
Storage UFS 4.0

With the specs out of the way let’s get into the benchmark results. Mind that the X90 Pro has a 1260 x 2800px display while some of the other phones on the list are running at lower/higher resolutions. Our review unit comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and boots Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13.

Starting off with Geekbench 5 CPU test – the X90 Pro managed an impressive feat of 4,273 multi-core points and 1,387 single core score. The single core score is neck and neck with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Galaxy S23 Ultra and Red Magic 8 Pro while the multi-core department sees a more substantial lead especially with the Red Magic 8 Pro. Granted, the Red Magic 8 has a substantial cooling system with a built in fan. Dimensity 9200 does offer substantial gains compared to its predecessor (Dimensity 9000+) found in the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.

The GPU-specific tests ran in GFXBench showcase the might of the new ARM Immortalis-G715 which placed second in all the onscreen tests right behind the Red Magic 8. The Dimensity was also neck and neck with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones in the offscreen tests.

In summary, the Dimensity 9200 is a true flagship chipset and a worthy rival to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Our benchmarks show it’s roughly 30% faster in the CPU benchmarks compared to the outgoing Dimensity 9000+ and 20% faster in the GPU department.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 edges the Dimensity 9200 chip in most cases but still keep in mind that synthetic benchmarks aren’t indicative of real world performance. We’re also waiting for more Dimensity 9200 phones to launch later this year and it will be interesting to see how they fare in these tests.
