Dozens of firefighters from Ohio are in the south and are ready to respond whenever Hurricane Ian makes landfall.
47 team members left the Dayton area over the weekend and are now in Alabama.
The Ohio Task Force 1 leader said they’ve been busy with meetings, checking equipment and training.
The team’s next steps all depend on when and where Hurricane Ian hits.
Team leader and retired Columbus Deputy Fire Chief Jack Reall said everyone is prepared for a wide range of emergency search and rescue operations.
“It could be a hotel that has collapsed,” Reall said. “Three-story, four-story collapsed. There are a lot of condos along the coastline. It could be inundated, especially with storm surges. We see storm surges collapsing buildings quite a bit. So we could have that, we could have light frame buildings that are blown around like in a tornado. Like mobile homes and things like that.”
This is the second deployment within a few months for some of the firefighters.
