An Echo of War is a type of combat mode in Honkai: Star Rail that allows players to reenact their biggest boss battles. Genshin Impact fans will recognize this as the same mechanic seen in Trounce Domains, where boss battles from the Archon Quests can be replayed for materials. In Honkai: Star Rail, the boss battles come from the Trailblaze Missions in different worlds.
As of launch, there are two different Echos of War for players to dive through. The first, Destruction’s Beginning, recreates the battle against the Doomsday Beast in Honkai: Star Rail. The second Echo of War, End of the Eternal Freeze, lets players fight Cocolia, Mother of Deception, again and again. Both provide important Trace materials.
Requirements For Unlocking Echoes of War
Even though players fight the Doomsday Beast early on in Honkai: Star Rail, they won’t immediately unlock its Echo of War mode. Instead, they will have to play through the main story on Jarilo-IV. After initially fighting Cocolia, players will get a Trailblaze Mission called “In The Dangerous Muddy Swamp.” After that, the player will run around the Underworld sharing the news of what occurred above the surface before receiving a group text from Honkai: Star Rail’s 5-star character Welt.
Once players speak to Welt aboard the Astral Express, they will unlock Echoes of War.
Every week, players can challenge the different Echoes of War once to collect their unique materials. These materials help level up Traces for various Honkai: Star Rail characters. All the characters available in Version 1.0 use materials from either the Doomsday Beast or Cocolia, Mother of Deception. Echoes of War can also drop Relics and 4-Star Light Cones.
All Drops & Rewards In Echoes of War
The Doomsday Beast’s Trace material is Destroyer’s Final Road. The Astral Express crew and members of Herta Space Station use this material. Meanwhile, Cocolia, Mother of Deception, drops Guardian’s Lament, the key Trace material for citizens of Belobog and residents of the Xianzhou Luofu featured in Honkai: Star Rail‘s early versions. Both bosses drop Lucent Afterglow, 5-Star Musketeer of Wild Wheat Relics, and 5-Star Thief of Shooting Meteor Relics.
Both bosses also have the chance to drop one of a selection of 4-Star Light Cones. The possible drops include Quid Pro Quo, Fermata, We Are Wildfire, River Flows in Spring, Past and Future, The Seriousness of Breakfast, and Woof! Walk Time!. Each works well as an alternate Light Cone or even a top pick for many of the characters featured in Honkai: Star Rail‘s launch.
