SIX at Hollywood Pantages
Six wives, six musical powerhouses and six opportunities to vote for your favorite Tudor Queen!
As brief as their royal reigns (with the exception of first wife Catherine of Aragon) the story of SIX is a nice bit of feminist reductionism and may in fact be the future of musical theater – if you want to attract young audiences. Which it did. Hundreds of adoring fans screamed their delight throughout this electrifying Spice Girls-meets-The Voice musical concert on opening night. Or maybe a portent of shows in this vein to come? Whatever the case, it seems some of the more modern musicals taking the stage are amping their assets with dazzling effects. SIX is no exception. Of course, being a contest of sorts, there is definitively less play than hype-pizzaz. But Hollywood Pantages audiences never seem to mind. Sensitive ears might have to stay home for this one. Their volume goes up to eleven. Recommended.

The Tony-Winning new musical phenomenon SIX by Tony Award®-Winners Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss are pleased to announce a digital lottery ticket policy in Los Angeles where performances will play a five-week run at Hollywood Pantages Theatre May 9-June10, 2023. HOW & WHEN TO ENTER
- Fans may enter the SIX digital lottery by visiting www.BroadwayInHollywood.com/Lottery.
- The lottery will open 2 days prior to each performance at 11:00AM. The first lottery will open on Sunday, May 7th at 11am.
- The lottery will close 1 day prior to each performance at 10:00AM
- No purchase or payment necessary to enter or participate.
- Only one entry per person, per performance. Repeat entries and disposable email addresses will be discarded.
- All times listed are in the local time zone.
HOW DO I GET MY TICKETS IF I WIN?
- Winners will be notified shortly after the lottery closes.
- Winners will have 1 hour to pay for their tickets online via the link in their winner notification email or the lottery website using the check status feature.
- All lottery tickets will be available for pickup at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre box office beginning 2 hours prior to curtain. Valid photo ID matching the name on the entry must be presented.

CAN I TOUCH IT? at Rogue Machine at the Matrix
(As a downtown born & raised Bostonian myself…) there wasn’t much Roxbury in Roxbury. The Bostonian “bite” simply wasn’t there in Rogue Machine’s presentation of Can I Touch It?. In any of the characters’/actors’ voices, attitude or body language. But the playwright’s ideas, although slightly disorganized, were palpable, especially as a wholly, African-American, experiential narrative. Unfortunately, both Francisca da Silveira’s writing and Gregg T. Daniels direction misses the mark on this production, even with a capable cast: Safiya Fredericks, Suzen Baraka, Iesha Daniels, and Scott Victor Nelson. The script explores so many ideas. Yet none of them really have a lot of impact.
It’s not a disappointment though. Overall, there’s still a lot to enjoy in this evening of tough-talk and silly escapades.
Shay Solomon is many things – but there’s one thing she’s definitely not: a pawn in the bank’s efforts to buy up foreclosed real estate. Can I Touch It? Examines Black hair politics, the racial inequities faced by Black-owned businesses and the fanatical place women of color have to recede into when they get asked stupid ass questions.

AVAAZ at Southcoast Repertory
It’s incredibly sweet. But so much more.
Playwright and lead actor Michael Shayan’s homespun solo show, AVAAZ, about his Jewish-Iranian immigrant mother, is layered with all the complexities of a mother/son relationship. But peel back the glittering costume, onstage table settings, dramatic gestures, and gossipy anecdotes and you will find that there is a direct, emotionally powerful story of a woman who lives in the light of joy even through the suffering of pain. And there is a son holding all of it for her. Read my review at Broadway World.
Meet Roya, our fabulous hostess, as she welcomes you into her home to celebrate Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. She’s preparing a feast, but the main attraction is Roya sharing her great American journey from Tehran to “Tehran-geles,” California. Traditions, humor and passionate storytelling transform this tale of family bonds into an unforgettable theatre event. Highly Recommended.
