The show GettingTherewritten and performed by Kendall Chappell, puts her character “Kendall” and her co-star “Luke,” played by Danny Farber, co-bunking in their mutual friend Aidan’s apartment in New York City. They arrive on the heels of life changing events that leave these strangers needing a place to crash and recover.

Not to spoil the plot, both characters are experiencing an existential crisis of sorts – not surprising as both are actors, as is Aidan. There is much angst as they consider their choices and challenges of life, relationships and “the business,” while sipping wine on Aidan’s balcony.

The set pieces are simple and well used. The dialogue is very natural, truly conversational and it’s clear these characters believe they are at a pivotal crossroads. The honesty in their conversation with one another points to how easy it can be to tell the truth to someone who’s a virtual stranger, especially after a couple of glasses of wine. These characters are certainly confronting what “adulting” is going to look like going forward from this moment for them both, but we would need another episode to see if they have actually learned any lesson in this brief layover at Aidan’s. Thus, aptly titled, “getting there.”
