OH, LORRAINE, reviewed – Gia On The Move

Reviewed by Heather Dowling

I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that Vengeance Productions – the writer/actor/director trio of HFF16 Best Comedy Winner, Lamprey: Weekend of Vengeance – would deliver something so solidly funny on stage with OH LORRAINE! But what a fun, farcical, and tender rom-com.

The writing was a joy even as it examined the possibility of a mentally impaired “Lorraine” and an unexpectedly dangerous “Del.” Carrie Keranen and Peter Fluet work masterfully together, timing out comedic beats and getting us invested in their characters, their connection and their happiness – even as we begin to understand that “happily ever after” is highly unlikely for the pair.

All of the supporting cast along for the ride on this couple’s wild first date add wonderful laughs. The comedic physicality of the action scenes on stage was creative, well choreographed and well executed by everyone. Throughout the show there are moments of sweetness that evoke an “Aahhh…” response from the audience and the ending pays that off beautifully.

Pop Quiz! Did I like the show? Yes, yes I did. Would I recommend it? Yes, yes I would.
