How Much Is Netflix? All Price Plans Explained

Netflix offers users several different pricing options to suit their needs, but exactly how much does Netflix cost per month? Streaming platforms have become so ubiquitous over the last decade it’s almost hard to remember a time before them. With viewers steadily moving away from physical media, it’s tough to beat a streaming service like Netflix, which provides consumers with an ever-widening selection of great movies and TV shows, including original content like Stranger Things, The Witcher, and Bridgerton among many others.

Netflix isn’t the only game in town when it comes to the streaming market, but they have consistently dominated since the explosion of streaming in the 2010s. Having stayed at the top for years, Netflix has managed to weather storms and outlast its competition as streaming becomes more and more common. According to Statista, the streamer has a worldwide user base of over 230 million, and the company actually saw a user increase after Netflix cracked down on password sharing in early 2023. Besides name recognition, Netflix’s secret to success is its diverse wealth of content and variety of pricing plans that appeal to every type of user.

Netflix’s Streaming Plans (& How Much They Cost)

  • Basic with ads: $6.99/month
  • Basic: $9.99/month
  • Standard: $15.49/month (extra member slots can be added for $7.99/month each)
  • Premium: $19.99/month (extra member slots can be added for $7.99/month each)

The question of how much Netflix costs per month isn’t an easy one to answer as the streamer offers several different plans. The cheapest is the Basic with ads tier which gives users access to most of the Netflix catalog for $6.99/month, but the content features ad breaks. The video streams in full HD, and is available to be viewed on two supported devices within a single household. For $9.99/month, the Basic option eliminates ads and allows for full access to the entire Netflix catalog, but the media streams in standard high definition and is only available to stream and download on one supported device.

The more advanced plans do increase Netflix’s monthly cost, but they also offer more features. The Standard plan, priced at $15.49 per month, allows for one additional member slot for someone outside the household and offers full HD streaming of all the best movies and best TV shows on Netflix, ad-free. Content can also be streamed and downloaded on two supported devices at a time. Standard Netflix users can also add one extra member who lives outside the household, for $7.99/month.

Finally, Netflix’s $19.99/month Premium plan streams in Ultra HD with spatial audio, and expands its supported devices to four with downloads available on six supported devices. On top of that, the Premium plan also allows for two member slots for those outside the household, also for $7.99/month per user.

For Netflix users who prefer physical media, the company does offer DVD and Blu-ray mailing options, though Netflix announced the end of its DVD-by-mail business, which will cease operation on September 29, 2023. All pricing plans offer both DVDs and Blu-rays on an unlimited basis per month, with the only difference being how many discs can be rented at one time. The $9.99/month Basic plan only allows for one disc to be rented at a time, while the $14.99/month Standard allows for two, and the Premium maxes out at three discs at the highest $19.99/month price point.
