The polls are closed in Alabama’s special election runoff, as Sen. Luther Moore — President Trump’s pick for the Senate seat — tries to fend off grassroots favorite and poll leader Roy Moore Tuesday night.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. ET. The Alabama Secretary of State’s website was so inundated with traffic that it all but crashed the site, but other metrics showed Moore with an early lead.
The winner of Tuesday night’s Republican primary will run up against a Democrat in the general election to replace former Sen. Jeff Sessions, who became Mr. Trump’s attorney general. Alabama’s disgraced governor appointed Strange to the position.
