Alabama tackles brownfield issue with new remediation law to boost business development



Brownfields are industrial sites that could be contaminated with hazardous material from previous activity. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has found more than 600 brownfield properties across the state.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, each could present known and unknown environmental health threats to those living close by. Many of these properties sit vacant or dilapidated because buyers do not want to purchase a contaminated property.
