The suspect stabbed the victim between 30 and 40 times, police revealed on Wednesday based on a medical report.

Security guards quickly responded to the crime scene. They were able to separate the pair and placed handcuffs on the suspect.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers soon apprehended him. He was identified as Dylan Ihmels, 25, of Henderson, Nev.

Ihmels later was charged with attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon and battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.

Ihmels remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center as of Wednesday. No bail was set. He is scheduled to next appear in local court on August 31.

The weapon used in the stabbings was described as a “small knife,” Las Vegas TV station KVVU reported.

Argument Over Money

Ihmels told officers the two men got into a “beef over money,” according to Las Vegas TV station KSNV. He refused to provide details.

During the slashings, the victim suffered six large stab wounds to his abdomen and wounds on both arms, the Las Vegas Review Journal added.

Officers at the crime scene applied two tourniquets on both of his arms, according to the Review Journal.

They also applied a chest seal to stop the victim’s bleeding, KVVU reported. Chest seals are bandages which often are placed on wounds in the chest, neck, or abdomen.

Suspect, Victim Treated By Doctors

The victim was rushed to University Medical Center (UMC) for treatment. Officials did not have an updated condition on the unnamed victim as of later in the week.

Ihmels also received treatment at UMC. He suffered a cut on his cheek, left elbow, and right knee, according to KSNV.

A friend of the victim’s who was walking with him back to the parked car did not appear to get injured during the incident.

The suspect and victim had been at the Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower earlier in the day. That is where the argument first broke out, the unnamed friend told police.

Surveillance cameras from the California Hotel & Casino (The Cal) captured the fight and slashings. It is close to the Main Street Station parking lot.
