Grant Gustin and Matt Letscher, who played The Flash and Reverse-Flash in the Arrowverse’s The Flash, join forces on the SAG-AFTRA strike picketing line. It has been nearly half a year since The Flash TV show came to an end on The CW after running for nearly a decade on the network. The Flash season 9 concluded in the midst of the Writers Guild of America, which had gone into effect only a few weeks before the series finale, and the SAG-AFTRA strike began only a few months after the final episode aired on The CW.
While the WGA and the AMPTP recently met for the first time again to attempt to resume negotiations, the strikes are still happening in Hollywood, as actors ad writers are joining forces in fighting for better working and financial conditions. Throughout the last few months, various Hollywood actors and writers have been taking it to the picketing lines, including members of the Arrowverse.
A fun reunion that is bound to put a smile on several fans of The Flash was Gustin and Letscher, who played Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne, respectively, on The CW drama. Letscher shared a new photo of the two DC TV veterans at the picketing line while using one of Reverse-Flash’s most iconic lines to take a jab at the AMPTP, with the quote “Who’s the villain now, Flash?” from The Flash’s own version of the Flashpoint storyline back in season 3. While “AMPTP” is edited in for readability, it can be seen written on the sign as well.
Even though The Flash TV show was brought to an end this year, many are still wondering if Gustin’s version of the Scarlet Speedster may return in one way or another down the line. As DC Studios is working on its new DC Universe, several Justice League heroes are being primed for the upcoming franchise. The Flash’s status has yet to be addressed, especially after Ezra Miller’s DCEU movie. Despite speculation that the two of them were somehow working together, James Gunn denied theories about Gustin returning as The Flash.
For the time being, it doesn’t appear that The Flash is part of DC Studios’ Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” as the fastest man alive wasn’t part of the projects announced for the DC Universe back in January. With that said, since they didn’t announce all of Chapter 1, it’s possible that The Flash is part of those plans. If they have Barry in the new DC Universe, it will likely either be Miller or a new actor, at this point, who dons the iconic speedster suit, although that doesn’t prevent Gustin from reprising the role through a multiverse story down the line.
Given the iconic status that Gustin has with The Flash property, it wouldn’t be shocking if he comes back in the future, especially with Gunn being a fan of the actor’s work. That would definitely make up for the fact that The Flash movie failed to have Gustin be included for a cameo, despite being a massive DC multiverse celebration. Until that happens, fans can revisit the entire run of The Flash, either on Netflix or when the complete series Blu-Ray/DVD box comes out on August 29.
