Whether you’re shopping in store or online, we rounded up our favorite ways to trim costs at Walgreens.
1. Join the myWalgreens Rewards Program
In November 2020, Walgreens replaced its Balance Rewards program with myWalgreens. This new customer loyalty program is designed to make shopping at Walgreens easier and more convenient. If you’re a member, you receive 1% Walgreens Cash rewards storewide (including the pharmacy), 5% Walgreens Cash rewards on store-branded products, and personalized deals based on your purchase history. You can also choose to donate your Walgreens Cash rewards to an eligible charity.
The program is free, and you can sign up at myWalgreens.com, in the Walgreens app, or in stores at checkout.
2. Download the Walgreens App
The redesigned Walgreens app was designed with your convenience in mind. With a few swipes, you can clip Walgreens coupons and offers and save instantly at checkout, order items for delivery or in-store pickup, manage prescriptions, chat with a pharmacist 24/7, schedule vaccination appointments, receive health and wellness advice, and more.
3. Save With a Walgreens Promo Code
Shopping online? Before you click “buy,” look for a Walgreens coupon code or promo code. Promo codes are updated constantly — look for the latest ones at Walgreens.com and RetailMeNot. Previous offerings have included free same-day delivery on orders, a percent-off discount on contact lenses, and buy one, get one offers. To get the savings, simply enter the code at checkout.
4. Take Advantage of Register Rewards
When you buy certain products, you might get a coupon with your receipt. This Register Reward is typically something like “Save $2 off your next purchase at Walgreens.” You won’t be able to apply the discount immediately, but you can use it on your next purchase.
5. Clip Digital Coupons
Browse hundreds of digital coupons at Walgreens.com, the Walgreens app or the online version of the weekly ad. You can save coupons directly to your myWalgreens account by clicking on “clip” on the offers page.
If you’re shopping online, any valid coupons are automatically applied when you check out. If you’re shopping in a store, just enter your phone number at checkout to apply eligible clipped coupons.
6. Use Manufacturer Coupons
Walgreens accepts manufacturer coupons, so be sure to keep an eye out for these in your local newspaper. You’ll be able to combine those discounts along with Walgreens’ weekly ad savings and your myWalgreens rewards to save big.
7. Stack Coupons for Maximum Savings
You can use one manufacturer coupon and any applicable Walgreens coupon when purchasing a single item. If you’re buying multiple qualifying items, Walgreens lets you use up to four identical coupons.
8. Open a myWalgreens Credit Card
Walgreens offers two credit cards — the myWalgreens Mastercard and myWalgreens credit card — to offer extra opportunities to save cash and earn rewards. You can apply online to see if you qualify.
- Both myWalgreens credit card options offer the following benefits for no annual fee: Earn 10% Walgreens Cash rewards on Walgreens-branded products, plus 5% Walgreens Cash rewards on all other brands and prescription purchases at Walgreens.
- The myWalgreens Mastercard also offers a few extra perks, including opportunities to earn Walgreens Cash rewards when you shop: Earn 3% Walgreens Cash rewards on grocery and health and wellness purchases outside of Walgreens, plus 1% Walgreens Cash rewards everywhere Mastercard is accepted.
9. Get Free Same-Day Pickup on Online Orders
Short on time? Shop online or on the Walgreens app, and select the option to pick up your items in the store. Walgreens will alert you when your order is ready (in as little as 30 minutes). You can go curbside, in store or at the drive-thru window to get your order. Have a prescription to pick up at the same time? Add it to your order, and you can collect everything at the pharmacy.
10. Get a Flu Shot — and a $10 Reward
The flu shot is an effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones from getting sick. Save yourself the trip to your doctor’s office and get the vaccine at your local Walgreens instead. In most cases, your health insurance will cover the cost. Plus, you receive a $10 Walgreens Cash reward, which you can put toward your next purchase. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can schedule an appointment.
11. Join the Prescriptions Savings Club
Drug costs can put a dent in your budget. If you need medications on an ongoing basis, consider enrolling in the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. Membership isn’t free — the annual fee is $20 for individuals and $35 for families up to five, including pets — but the savings can be significant.
Membership in the club also gives you deals on most vaccinations, bonus points on select Walgreens-branded products, savings on some preventative and lifestyle medications not covered by insurance, and discounts on certain medical supplies with a prescription.
There are some restrictions — for example, the program isn’t available to those with Medicare or Medicaid — so be sure to read the fine print before signing up.
12. Sign up for the Walgreens Newsletter
The store also sends deals and exclusive offers through email. To get them, you’ll need to sign up for the Walgreens newsletter. It only takes a second. Then, watch your email for savings opportunities. You can also keep track of your myWalgreens account through the newsletter.
13. Shop on Seniors Day
On the first Tuesday of every month and all week online, Walgreens celebrates Seniors Day for myWalgreens members ages 55 and older. Seniors save 20% on eligible regular-priced items in-store and online with the code SENIOR20. You can also earn a $1 Walgreens Cash reward when asking the pharmacy staff about staying up to date on recommended vaccines.
14. Check out the Walgreens Clearance Section
The next time you’re walking around the store or browsing online, be sure to head to the clearance section. A recent online search turned up heavily discounted makeup, vitamins and supplements, and humidifiers. For the best deals, shop just after a season or holiday.
