OnePlus Open leaks in detailed renders with a rumored price of $1,699

Earlier this month, OnePlus started its hype-building campaign for the Open with a promotional video that showed the device from some angles, but not all of them, and also concealed what seemed like a huge camera island on its back.

Today a usually reliable source brought us a ton of leaked renders of the upcoming foldable smartphone, and these leave nothing to the imagination, showing every single detail. And indeed, there is a gigantic camera island on the rear.

The renders suggest that the OnePlus Open will be offered in two colorways – a faux leather black, and a glass green. The phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which makes sense considering the rumors saying it would launch this month. But Qualcomm will introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 within only a few days after that, and that will leave the Open in an awkward spot.

Especially since this leak brings us a rumored price in the US of $1,699, which is only $100 less than what the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 launched at. So it’s not possible to place the Open in a more affordable spot of the market in order to alleviate the use of what will almost instantly be a superseded chipset.

Anyway, the OnePlus Open will come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, a 6.31-inch outer screen, and a 7.8-inch flexible main screen sourced from BOE. It’s said to be made official on October 19. According to previous rumors, it will have a 48 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultrawide, and a 64 MP 3x optical zoom camera.

The handset will make it to the US and Europe at least, but not Germany due to parent company Oppo’s ongoing patent dispute with Nokia in the country.
