The second season of Hazbin Hotel might be coming faster than the five years it took to produce season 1, but it is still a ways off. Hazbin Hotel follows Princess of Hell Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen) on her mission to redeem Hell’s Sinners, supported by her girlfriend Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz). Only shows with similarly clever comedy interwoven with a meaningful story will be able to fill the gap left by Hazbin Hotel — at least for the time being.

Additionally, Charlie and Luz share several other personality traits, such as their typical optimism and relentless determination.

7 Infinity Train (2019-2021)

Hazbin Hotel fans can find a strange new setting in Infinity Train.

Infinity Train is set in the mysterious world (or many worlds) of a moving train, where trapped passengers are forced to confront problems about themselves and their lives that they have swept under the rug. For fans whose favorite part of Hazbin Hotel is the inventive character and production design, Infinity Train will be engaging. Every train car is a different world with new creatures and rules. Every season focuses on a new person who must find their way off the train. It might be thought of as Hazbin Hotel meshing with Snowpiercer.

Galavant is the perfect option for fans who miss Hazbin Hotel’s best songs. Galavant is a short-lived, spoof comedy series set in a medievalist world borrowing elements from Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and Arthuriana. Like Hazbin Hotel, Galavant is a musical with two songs per episode, which are generally humorous and intended to mock the characters or the setting. Additionally, Galavant’s soundtrack is composed by accoladed songwriter Alan Menken. The show was canceled after two seasons, but is immensely enjoyable with great music.

3 Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)

For anyone who likes clever animated adult comedy, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a must-see. Amazingly, the show was able to recruit almost all the actors from the live-action Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to voice their characters in this new story. With some outrageous villainous characters and a protagonist who ultimately needs to address his own shortcomings, the new Scott Pilgrim animated show is perfect for Hazbin Hotel fans. It does not follow the plot of Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels but features an amazing original story that will delight everyone.

Invader Zim is one of the shows that inspired Hazbin Hotel.

Medrano also refers to Invader Zim’s influence on Hazbin Hotel as one of the animated shows she watched growing up (Screen Rant interview). In addition to the original show, Netflix recently produced the sequel movie Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. This movie continues to follow the wacky adventures of the hopeful alien invader and his battles with his human rival. It is easy to see how the red and magenta backgrounds and dramatically impertinent humor inspired Hazbin Hotel. Additionally, the long-time voice of Zim, Richard Steven Horvitz, went on to voice Moxxie in Medrano’s other show, Helluva Boss.

This show is also set in Medrano’s vision of Hell and follows Blitzø (Brandon Rogers) and his company of Imp assassins who can access the living world and exact revenge on behalf of Sinners. Helluva Boss is more episodic, showing the daily adventures of the Imps, but demonstrates the same dry sense of humor and great character dynamics. Major VivziePop fans will be eager to learn more about the creator’s work and can enjoy this show until Hazbin Hotel returns.
